About the Author

AFTER STUDYING MAN FOR FOURTY YEARS, THE GREAT SCIENTIST DR. ALEXIS CARREL FOUND MAN TO BE A MYSTERY SO CONFUSING THAT HE WROTE A BOOK, PUBLISHED IN 1935, TITLED “MAN THE UNKNOWN,” IN WHICH HE FLATLY DECLARED, “IN FACT, OUR IGNORANCE (OF MAN) IS PROFOUND” (P.4). ON THE VERY FIRST PAGE OF THIS BOOK, HE BEGAN WITH THIS STATEMENT:

“THOSE WHO INVESTIGATE THE PHENOMENA OF LIFE ARE AS IF LOST IN AN INEXTRICABLE JUNGLE, IN THE MIDST OF A MAGIC FOREST, WHOSE COUNTLESS TREES UNCEASINGLY CHANGE THEIR PLACE AND THEIR SHAPE.

“THESE INVESTIGATORS ARE CRUSHED BY A MASS OF FACTS WHICH THEY CAN DESCRIBE BUT ARE INCAPABLE OF DEFINING IN ALGEBRAIC EQUATIONS”
